ABSTRACT

As the need for nutrition is mainly satisfied by way of the creation of agroecosystems, the environments capable of satisfying it the best, so the even more immediately lived-in environment of human beings is typically an influenced and even created one. The same applies to most other amenities and technological toys of modern life which ate wanted because they are seen to satisfy some need, suit some primal diversion, make life or work easier, etc. Environmentalist considerations are very low on the list of factors to take into consideration for all but a few consumers. "Integration" in the case of technology and economics refers to its re-orientation to work like ecological processes, as suggested in ideas of "industrial ecology" or the concept of "natural capitalism". The prospects for economic growth under conditions where labor is ample but natural capital increasingly scarce and where it may be necessary to make it parallel a climax ecosystem are rather more difficult to ascertain.
