ABSTRACT

We have shared many stories that bring professional collaboration to life, both the promise and the pitfalls. Here we review the ingredients for professional collaboration and summarize key lessons for leaders. We offer concrete suggestions for how leaders can support professional collaboration with teachers as co-developers in this complex work. Many paths can lead to improved professional collaboration. However, professional collaboration that moves toward the goal of equitable and excellent schooling needs to center on teachers’ learning development, motivation, and socio-emotional needs throughout their careers.
