ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book outlines the steps and strategies that coaches using Rational Emotive Behavioural Coaching (REBC) should employ as a guide when working with coachees in development-focused REBC and problem-focused REBC. Within problem-focused REBC, it covers coaching for practical problems and coaching for emotional problems. The book shows how REB coaches can address the inevitable obstacles to coaching progress that are likely to occur in all types of REBC. It outlines the most common steps for each type of coaching and discusses common strategies for the implementation of each step. Coaching was originated to help people who are functioning satisfactorily in life to develop themselves in one or more life areas. Coaches are also asked to help people deal with a range of practical and emotional problems because these people find it more acceptable to be 'in coaching' than 'in therapy or counselling'.
