ABSTRACT

Myth has played a key role in the success of capitalism, particularly insofar as its ideologies and practices have been embodied by ordinary citizens in the Anglo-Saxon West. This chapter draws on theories of religion and capitalism, as well as the contemporary neoliberal context in order to highlight the complex ways in which myths of capitalism have been embodied and resisted. It stresses that reawakening to the role of myth in developing solidarity is key to resisting capitalism in the contemporary world.
