Introduction

African peacekeeping training centres are a fascinating research subject in their own right, given their role in supporting the implementation of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and their contribution to bringing peace to the African continent. At the same time there is so much more to these training centres and to peacekeeping training as an activity than meets the eye. In fact, African peacekeeping training centres are sites where, for the lack of a better word, different ‘forces’ meet: Doctrine and action, universality and particularity, and the ‘international’ and the ‘African’. This indicates that the activity of training peacekeepers entails more than the transfer of information.
