ABSTRACT
There have been many definitions documented of what supervision is and the important role that supervisors have. This chapter provides an overview of the context in which supervision takes place, its importance for any role and how supervisors leave an impression on us over time. The different types of supervision are discussed, and the chapter outlines a series of questions for new supervisors to consider as they reflect on what they know or have heard about supervision. The chapter concludes with a useful checklist to assist new supervisors to think about what they need as they commence in the role.
