ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores a different narrative; an explanation of the insurgency’s presence in other countries, as part of a conceptual explanation of Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia’s (FARC) nature. It explains the nature of FARC in the 21st century, analysing what it had become after 50 years of conflict. The former was a drug dealer for FARC’s Southern Bloc and their main link with the Sinaloa Cartel, as yet another example of connections between the commercial insurgency and Mexican cartels. The book argues that commercial insurgencies have three dimensions, political, military, and criminal. The depiction of FARC as a hybrid entity and a commercial insurgency seeks to open the door to the observation of other agents that may fall into the same category. FARC’s experience, in general terms, is a good example for the analysis of other cases.
