ABSTRACT
The growth of the nonprofit sector. With this chapter, the fourth section of the book begins with its discussion of ongoing trends that are fundamentally shaping the sector, even as it outwardly continues down the path first defined by the Great Society initiatives of the Johnson years. This chapter covers the remarkable growth of America’s nonprofit arena, and discusses how that growth has influenced the sector, how it has impacted the American economy, and how it has led to a previously unforeseen partnership with the government.
