ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the qualitative patterns found in the cooperative interaction of the thirty-seven assistant vice presidents (AVP). It discusses social patterns that provide the basis for the context in which the cooperative process must be carried out. The chapter analyzes important permanent committee to find out what function formal structures play in the cooperative process on the AVP level. It presents analysis into the informal processes that have developed to facilitate cooperation. The chapter describes meeting between the staff coalition and the line coalition in which a transfer of resources took place. This meeting will be used to demonstrate the role of conflict in the cooperative process. Power in the hands of self-interested individuals was the primary influence on the shape of the cooperative process. These individuals formed into coalitions to effect change that was advantageous to their ambitions.
