ABSTRACT

Technology integration for effective teaching and learning is complex and is impacted by a range of contextual factors, which are specific to each school, classroom, and teacher. In this chapter, we introduce the Technology Integration Pyramid (Mathematics) to provide a model for teachers to assist with understanding the complexities involved. The three-dimensional model provides a means to understand the dynamic influences that can act to enable or limit effective technology integration. Once these influences are understood, the model provides a four-sided scaffold to guide technology-infused teaching by focussing on mathematics content, pedagogy, tools, and student engagement. In this way, the model extends existing technology integration frameworks by presenting a realistic and holistic lens through which to view the work of real teachers and students in our technology-enriched world now and into the future.
