ABSTRACT

This chapter ties together several of the diverse strands of the book by making an audacious suggestion: the profoundly aristocratic conception of the philosopher-king – of the unity of intellectual and physical, of those who can self-master and self-overcome the rigour of both mental and physical training daily – might actually be a profoundly radical and revolutionary proposal put forward by Plato. A turn back to some passages from Homer’s Odyssey helps unlock the key for this one final conspiracy theory proffered in the book.
