ABSTRACT

The wool trade was for centuries the main source of England’s wealth, and the production of the raw materials for weaving cloth involved the use of such tools as heckles, carding combs and weaving combs. Forceps, tenter hooks, harbicks and cloth shears were used in the finishing of the cloth (for general works relevant to textile manufacture see Jenkins 1965, 176–184; Barker 1957; Patterson 1957; Rose 1957; Woodhouse 1957).
