ABSTRACT

Symbols are the starting point; they are, according to C. G. Jung, the language of the unconscious and of the soul. Symbols as well as images transport unconscious material, emotions, memories of experiences and events, insights, conflicts and other psychic content. Working with symbols facilitates new insights into difficult work or life situations and basic personal issues and contributes to personal development by providing new and different perspectives. By observing the object level, one can understand the nature of outer relationships, since the object level perspective connects the symbol to real people in the actual life situation. The client can then be asked or may even suggests to create their own image of the symbol using a pen or colours. The most important prerequisite is openness, emotional and intellectual curiosity and willingness as well as a familiarity with the use of symbols on the part of the coach in regard to the client’s inner-world and essence.
