ABSTRACT

The task of the coach is to prepare a final review process – first inviting the client to review the experience, the goal, the achievements, important insights, moments of despair and happiness and changes in feelings over time – if they want to. Second, the coach must carefully prepare for this review process by reflecting on their notes, their starting hypothesis, the development of the relationship and the client, and on their own feelings during this process and at the end of the relationship. An early ending poses a dual challenge for the coach: the coach must terminate this coaching relationship with the same level of due care and professionalism as when concluding a successful one. A healthy dependency is a natural aspect of a personal development process, whereby the client not only opens up emotionally but also, in difficult moments of inner-confusion and irritation, depends on the coach and their judgement, containment and attachment.
