ABSTRACT

Neuroscience has gained increasing traction in the field of psychology and psychodynamic theory. Building on J. Panksepp’s work in affective neurosciences, M. Solms developed and applied a new approach to mind, brain, body and consciousness in the area of neuropsychoanalysis. Jaak Panksepp’s affective systems are an important guide to the inner-feeling structures in terms of understanding in which system the question or problem is located, and it is crucial for them to be understood and worked with. Countertransference, the transference of the feelings of the other, in the perspective is to developing an idea of where to start working. The affective feelings have a motivational impact; they make do something because they indicate that certain needs are not being met.
