ABSTRACT

A chemical substitute for stonewashing has been provided by Garmon Chemicals through its Geopower NPS technology. One of the main weak spots of the global textile industry is that the use of chemistry is at the moment very poorly regulated. At the beginning of the spinning process, fibers from different origins are mixed together in order to achieve the right quality. The two most common methods of dyeing the warp threads are rope and slasher dyeing. Both have their pros and cons. When the denim fabric leaves the weaving department it is in a so-called loomstate or dry state. The reduction is achieved via hydrogenation, the by-product of which is water, rather than sulfites and sulfates, as would be the case with regular synthetic indigo. Very closely related to indigo, aniline is an organic compound considered the "mother molecule" of indigo. A laser is a device that produces a beam of light powerful enough to cut through stuff, including textiles.
