ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with trends - fifteen of them - which seem likely to have an important influence on the way organisations will be managed and therefore on the design of MS 70. The effect of the trend on managers is quite simple-it means that virtually every manager in every organisation in every nation will find that in the 1970s the conditions in which he works will change in the same direction although not at the same speed, perhaps, and not from the same starting base. These trends will affect managers in two ways; the increase in international and inter-city implies a considerable invasion of foreign ideas, products, services and people among all nations. This implies that any manager who is judging the performance of his organisation by local or national criteria will progressively be using the wrong standard.
