ABSTRACT

In 2009, Blau et al. conducted retrospective research on the pay of women in an attempt to discern if variables like race and gender played a determinant role in the entrenched pay gap between white men and women. From a sanguine perspective, they believe that, irrespective of gender, women will indeed achieve equality in all matters of life and will, like men, enjoy economic progress as a result. Equally important is that both groups enjoy civilian employers' preference to hire female veterans over nonveteran females. Education is reputed to be the great equalizer. Multiple studies identify that outside of patriotism, education is one of the primary reasons for civilians' call to military service. In the military, women are equally remunerated as men according to rank and time in service, and controlling for other variables such as gender and the reduced probability of being promoted in the military also as a consequence of gender.
