ABSTRACT

Applying to graduate school costs not only time but also money. Some people are drawn to the field of health psychology due to experiences with mental or physical illness in oneself or among family members or friends. The minimum requirements for a doctoral degree in psychology are some set of undergraduate or master’s level psychology courses, such as a course in research design or experimental methods and one or more statistics courses. Nearly every graduate program requires some type of written personal statement as part of the application. Many graduate programs require a minimum of three letters of recommendation for each applicant. Strong letters of recommendation for graduate school are often quite detailed and take considerable time for faculty members to write. The process of applying to graduate school can be a long and emotionally taxing process filled with uncertainty.
