ABSTRACT

The main focus of this book lies on the soy agribusiness in North-west Argentina. In order to understand, why the North-west has become strategically interesting, this chapter provides a contextual analysis of the soy agribusiness in Argentina. Three different contexts are provided: Thematically, the evolution of thought styles surrounding soy production is unearthed. In so doing, the different actors’ argumentations are presented and contrasted. Temporally, a new classification of development phases in the Argentine soy production business is proposed, highlighting the importance of stakeholder's thought collective memberships. Spatially, the expansion of soy cultivation beyond the Pampean core is thematised and visualised.
