ABSTRACT
Claims making is a core feature of environmental justice concepts, both scientific and activist ones. However, the question of incommensurabilities, i.e. why in some conflictive situations no social-ecological conflicts arise has not been sufficiently touched upon. Hence, this chapter proposes the environmental justice incommensurabilities framework and offers a guide for a CLASSIC and an ALTERNATIVE reading of conflictive situations. In the next step, the framework is applied to the Chaco Salteño to reveal the actors involved, the effects of change and conflict (potentials) that can ultimately lead to environmental justice claims making.
