Outcomes, Impacts, and Accountability book
Collective impact is one of many approaches to evaluating outcomes and impacts of community involvement initiatives. Desirable outcomes and impacts are much more likely to occur when there is accountability. Incorporating evaluation into the planning and implementation process positions the museum to learn about program outcomes and impacts. The Children's Museum Pittsburgh, located in Pittsburgh's Northside neighborhood, is a vital community resource that provides exhibits and programs for learning and play. The Charm Bracelet Project has been another community-wide project that involves the Children's Museum Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh's North Side, the museum's neighborhood, had been in decline for a number of years. The Queens Museum, located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York City, sees the impacts of long-term community work in profound ways. The Queens Museum's programming reflects what they learn in the community about the importance of language access and a focus on immigration issues.
