Building Healthier Communities book
The research included about building healthier communities helps museum professionals learn about their communities and guide their museums on the journey to community involvement. Much of museum–community involvement work is based on the idea of museums as vital members of their communities, integral to building healthier communities and contributing to a community's well-being. The Institute of Museum and Library Services includes community anchors in its funding criteria in the Museums for America and National Leadership grant programs. Community well-being is a term applied in public health, community development, and social science research, among others. Collective impact is a theory of social change focused on cross-sector collaboration to address complex social problems. The term building community is used to describe a variety of situations and desires, from deepening the relationships with teams to developing resources and skills within one's groups and neighborhoods.
