ABSTRACT
The research process describes how to begin learning about communities, how to embrace what one learns, and how to incorporate community learning and community involvement into everyday museum practice. What are the opportunities and challenges that might arise as museum staff members begin learning about communities? Museum leadership and staff need to have a clear idea of the value that museums bring to building healthy communities. As staff members begin to learn about the community and begin to create a community profile, consider who will receive the community profile report. The museum leadership and staff may be considering creating an advisory group as one of their strategies for learning about communities. As museum leadership and staff begin to identify the priority communities they want to connect with more fully, they will want to be intentional and consider why they are interested in a specific community.
