ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the notion that urban schools serving low-income communities are doomed to low levels of academic achievement. It describes the salient characteristics of instruction in high-performing urban schools. The book provides a manner that adequately credits the impressive efforts of educators at these schools. Mathematicians relish the notion of existence proofs. If they can find just one example that contradicts a theorem, the existence of the one example proves the theorem inaccurate. Educators at the schools are impressively adept at creating environments in which students, parents, and other educators feel respected, valued, and appreciated.
