ABSTRACT

This game conveys the instrumental struggles faced by social movement organizations pursuing legal equality in the United States. Students will work in small groups to create and implement a strategy for a hypothetical social movement organization modeled after key elements of the Women’s Rights Movement of the 1920s and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. You will spend finite resources on tactics such as protests, lobbying, and public outreach to overcome the myriad obstacles you encounter while pushing for change in a rigged system. Along the way, you will grapple with tough questions about equality, rights, and civic engagement in a democracy.
