ABSTRACT

Students had a chance to design this water-heating system and run it through the computer to see how, for example, a selective surface or an extra heat exchanger would alfect its performance. Without bothering with the wan Wisconsin sun, Duffie and Beck man have been able to test a number of systems. They simulated an industrial water-heating experiment conducted on a large scale in Australia. An Australian scientist, Dr. Peter 1. Cooper, spent five months in Madison on this job. Then the computers were used to design a house at Colorado State University in Fort Collins that is being heated and cooled by the sun.
