ABSTRACT

A big challenge for principals and teacher leaders is disaggregating data to understand the underlying causes for a school’s dysfunction in student achievement. The “Why” behind the rise or fall of student test scores, attendance rate, or discipline problems can be hindered if viewed from a superficial level. Responsibility for the increase or decrease in any of these areas can cloud the reality of the “Why.” The benefit of conducting a quantitative evaluation of the perspectives of those involved can highlight the why and lead towards “What now.” Jean Roberts is given the opportunity to see how her leadership has helped or hindered the growth at Pilgreen Middle School. Her ability to reflect on her leadership practices based on the results from the OHI helps her to create a plan toward a healthy school organization.
