ABSTRACT

School are living organisms where change is an ever-present challenge. Notifications from federal, state, or local school agencies can disrupt even the best laid plans of an effective campus leader. Teachers can express extreme frustration when they are told to change a teaching strategy or reorganize their curriculum scope and sequence due to new regulations or when a new leader comes to power with their own priorities. School leaders must anticipate the needs of their faculties and staff when change is unavoidable. Knowing when and how to Direct, Guide, Participate, Support, Delegate, and Empower individuals and teams is an essential skill for effective school leaders. Adaptation to change can make or break a school culture and climate so having the knowledge of the extent of a faculty’s response to change is key to making a school a healthy organization.
