ABSTRACT

The students, through literacy activities, came to a better understanding of mathematics as a discipline and are more likely to remember the information they learned because of their engagement. As more and more students at all achievement levels report feeling disconnected from the world in the confines of a school in which the learning seems contrived, community-based projects will increase motivation and reshape schools of the future. The more literacy-rich a school environment is with relevant content, motivated students, knowledgeable staff, and a climate conducive to ongoing learning, the more likely it is that school community will be successful.
