ABSTRACT

For the purpose of this paper, the IUCN, UNEP and WWF definition of what constitutes environmental sustainability in natural resources and environmental management (1991) will be adopted. As defined, natural resources and environmental management in an environmental sustainability mode calls for

the protection of natural ecosystems, the production of wild renewable resources from modified natural ecosystems, the sustainable production of crops and livestock from cultivated ecosystems, the development of built (or urban) ecosystems in ways that are sensitive to human and biological communities and the restoration of degraded ecosystems.
