ABSTRACT

From macroscopic investigations of winning and losing, detailed insights into tactics and system changes, to live analyses during matches—positional data open up many new possibilities to model the tactical aspects of the game, find patterns, and create novel, advanced performance measures. At the microscopic level, how will the match report of the future look like? To this day, post-match analyses are done mostly by hand. Indeed, it is very labor intensive, with video recordings and comprehensive statistics also gathered. However, the subjectivity of the reports predominates. This chapter illustrates how such a manually organized match analysis can be complemented by the selective use of Key p

Performance Indicators (KPIs) based on positional data. A thorough post-match analysis of the Rhinish derby between Cologne and Leverkusen is conducted, combining traditional subjective analysis with advanced KPIs. The detailed analysis ranges from team to individual performances and from tactical patterns to selected individual scenes.
