ABSTRACT

The potential to apply positional data cannot be limited only to the field of match analysis. With an eye to practice, it becomes apparent that the application of data in the physical arena is currently comparatively well established. This chapter investigates how performance diagnostics benefit from this new source of fitness data. Combined with all types of additional sensor technology, as in the case of wearable devices, experts aim to make loads more measurable to prevent injuries. Yet, no sound scientific models have been found and teams usually rely on best practice. In two interviews, Dr. Holger Broich, head of health and fitness at Bayern Munich, gives a first insight, and Prof. Dr. Lochmann, sports scientist, sports physician, and UEFA A-license coach, casts a scientific perspective on the topic.
