ABSTRACT

This chapter examines faculty work in the context of knowledge work, technology, and competing priorities. The chapter begins by providing a strategic orientation considering deep work, effective goal setting, and focus for pre-tenure faculty. Next, the chapter discusses the power of setting a weekly schedule template and shows the reader how to implement this approach to managing daily faculty work to meet the requirements for tenure. This chapter also offers specific tactical approaches such as managing email, budgeting goals, and understanding work-life balance. The chapter’s goal is to reorient readers to think about their work differently and provide specific approaches to accomplishing all types of faculty work effectively and efficiently.
