ABSTRACT

Beyond the work that goes into building an effective tenure case, assistant professors also have to navigate the tenure decision process. This chapter discusses how the process works and the key decision points along the way. Additionally, the tenure appeals process is considered with suggestions for tenure candidates that may need to take avail themselves of an appeal. Beyond the tenure decision process, the chapter examines tenure criteria, managing your image, and the important constituencies for every tenure candidate. The chapter describes in detail how to prepare the tenure dossier, personal statement, and how to consider potential external reviewers to guide the reader through the important documents that must be prepared for tenure committees to review.
