ABSTRACT
The BBC had often annoyed politicians. ITV prided itself on following suit. Channel 4 did it too. Public service broadcasters were there to be impartial – not the official Opposition – not merely opposed to Governments – often to explain government. But, on occasions all of this required a steady head.
