ABSTRACT

The final empirical chapter, using the data, elucidates notions of sexualities in reference to the data. Drawing on sexuality theories and concepts, such as heteronormativity (Jackson, 2005), I demonstrate the ways in which men do sexuality and what this means for them. The discourses around homosexuality and bisexuality shape the ways in which men think about their sexualities, which in turn shape their sexual practices. I also discuss homophobia, which prevents most gay and bisexual men from seeking love; instead, remaining ‘in the closet’ and hence seeking out sexual partners in a clandestine fashion means that love is almost impossible to achieve and retain for most gay and bisexual men.
