ABSTRACT

Explains why it’s so important to be able to tolerate a certain amount of uncertainty in relationships. Each partner often has personal rules which the other may not share or even be aware of. This is explored with some ideas about management. Drivers and injunctions from transactional analysis are discussed, and there’s an exercise to help readers identify their own drivers and psychological positions. The remainder of the chapter focuses on strategies to improve personal wellbeing and ability to self-soothe, leading to greater tolerance of uncertainty and improved relationships. As usual, case studies are used to explain and expand some of the points.
