ABSTRACT
A sound source as large as a full-size grand piano presents engineers with numerous alternatives for turning the sonic character of the instrument into a stereo recording, and this chapter considers several microphone techniques engineers employ – ORTF, A-B spaced pair, and mid-side. It also discusses methods for dealing with unfavorable room acoustics, particularly placing mics inside the piano.
