ABSTRACT

The costs of university-wide or division-wide support and advocacy of Lean Higher Education (LHE) by senior leaders are not negligible. Some commitment of university resources is expected. LHE is a proven problem-solving approach to support the sustainable success of a university in the competitive and turbulent marketplace of higher education. The application of LHE principles and practices to continuously improve the value and performance of university processes is the primary goal of LHE. LHE offers a new mindset to support the execution of a university’s strategy for differentiation and competitive advantage in the turbulent marketplace of higher education. LHE, in contrast, embraces “doing more with less” as integral to its problem-solving approach: engaging employees in the continuous improvement of the process using fewer and fewer resources while delivering more value to the beneficiaries. Organizations, in comparison to organisms, are not as well integrated to maximize the efficiency of their system.
