ABSTRACT

This chapter presents how best to implement various curricular models for teaching students with disabilities in physical education settings. The chapter discusses the two main theme curriculum models: adventure education (AE) and sport education (SE). The aims of AE are to facilitate holistic growth, learning, and realization of one's potential through challenging experiences. The aims of AE are to facilitate holistic growth, learning, and realization of one's potential through challenging experiences. Research shows that inclusion and acceptance of students with disabilities are major benefits of AE in physical education classes. SE is a curriculum and instructional approach designed by Daryl Siedentop to link sport activities taught in school physical education to the wider sporting culture. The chapter discusses several applicable instructional strategies: active teaching, cooperative learning, task teaching and learning stations, peer assessment, plus self-instruction-al formats such as contract teaching and personalized systems of instruction to individualized instruction.
