ABSTRACT

Sir, – e subject of Prison Reform having recently created considerable interest, as the result of articles and letters which have appeared in the “Natal Witness,” and of articles and letters from Sir Robert Anderson, Sir Edward Fry, Mr Justice Wills, and others, which have appeared in English publications, and of articles on the American system of treatment of prisoners, we beg to suggest, for the consideration of the Government, the advisability of asking His Excellency the Governor to appoint a Commission for the purpose of considering this question, and that of penology, in relation to this Colony.
