ABSTRACT
Sources have been chosen to re ect the broad themes of administration in the period under consideration. e remit of the project was to reproduce sources which are not easily available in print or electronically. We have endeavoured to provide examples of unpublished manuscript sources where possible. Key sources regarding Britain’s colonial administration in Africa have been reproduced regardless of their availability elsewhere to uphold the coherence of our collection. To reduce source length where necessary, tables of contents, indices, sections not relevant to a topic, repetitions and illustrations have all been deleted. Omissions are marked by an ellipsis in square brackets ([…]) and original page breaks are marked by a forward slash (/). Typographical errors in the original texts are reproduced verbatim in this collection and indicated by a following [sic].
