ABSTRACT

First I shall review the Roman wedding introit as promised in an earlier article, to

INTROIT Deus israhel (For the antiphon text, see Vulgate Tobias 7:15b [Jerome's interpolation] and 8:19a [=Septuagint 8:17]; for the psalm verse, see Ps. 127:1, and for the versus ad repetendum in 5319, Ps. 127:3.)

Mode: According to the psalm-tone intonation (beginning G ac c) and differentia (c ccb2 aG a b G ) , the mode is deuterus authenticus. But many of the formulas used in the antiphon are also found in introits provided with deuterus plagalis psalm tones. (See below.)

A rubric for the wedding Mass precedes the introit in all sources: in F 11 and 5319, Miss sponsalicia; in 299, Mis sponsalicia; but Missa ad sponsas benedicdas in 300.
