ABSTRACT

As Elsa processes to the cathedral for her wedding to Lohengrin (Act 2 Scene 3), four pages emerge onto the balcony of the Kemenate, run merrily down the stairway, place themselves in front of the Palas and instruct the crowd to make way for the bride. They then advance towards the steps 42of the cathedral. The nobles give way before them. Four other pages solemnly advance onto the balcony in readiness to accompany the procession.
