ABSTRACT
Hagen is the soil of the Nibelung, Alberich, and a human woman, Grimhild, wife of King Gibich. Hagen is thus half-brother to Gibich's legitimate children, Gunther and Gutrune. Like them Hagen only appears in the drama Götterdämmerung. Alberich hopes that Hagen will prove a worthy adversary for Wotan's free hero, Siegfried.
