ABSTRACT

A breakdown of the academic background of members of the Human Factors Society emphasises the psychological orientation of Human Factors education. The Company Human Factors Wigwam, indicating the various levels of expertise and education required within an organisation to ensure proper application of Human Factors. As management is a human activity associated with work, this concept is directly within the scope of the technology of Human Factors. The cost of making changes from a basic aircraft model has increased the advantages of getting the design right in the first place through timely Human Factors input. Nevertheless, Human Factors deficiencies are still being designed into new aircraft, partly as a result of inadequate specification requirements from the customer. There is a mass of evidence to demonstrate that the good application of Human Factors is intrinsically desirable and that its neglect is likely to prove costly. As with good health, better education is the key to success.
