ABSTRACT

It was in this conjuncture, that I received from the steward the letter abovementioned, announcing to me the actual state of affairs. Immediately upon the receipt of it I did not fail to set out for the residence of my youth, that I might at least use the information of my own senses on the subject of which it had treated. The diversion of my mind to matters of a totally different nature, was fortunate for me, after the indescribable wretchedness I had experienced from the events at Montagu House.
