ABSTRACT

I would gladly have accompanied Mr. Haversham, for I was now little disposed to prolong my stay in Greece; but the business which had brought me there, was not in such a state as to justify my immediate departure. Little good, however, resulted from my remaining where I was. Our negociations, as we called them, went on, but I was unable to perceive the value of those securities and engagements which it was proposed to give, and to enter into, for the purpose of securing payment of the interest and principal of the debt, which the executive government of the classic soil, were ready to contract.
