ABSTRACT

Thady had eagerly set his heart upon his promised share of the reward, and had begun, in his own way, to build as fine castles in the air as ever entered into the prolific fancy of a pennyless Irishman. He had already planned an immediate return to his native isle, the entire purchase of a cabin ‘ilegantly’ white-washed, with a pig in one corner and a cow in the other, besides a paddock for the cow to graze in, and a nice bit of ground where he could grow potatoes for a daily supply of eatables, and flax to give winter’s work at the spinning-wheel to his wife and daughters, both of which he meant to have as indispensable parts of his live stock.
